Kind Of Medieval Swords

  • Posted on September 4, 2010 at 11:52 am

Medieval sword replicas generally come in several different forms. You can buy swords that are built for reenactments, swords created for display purposes only, and swords created for cutting and sparring. The model you choose to purchase will be largely dictated by the use you will be putting your sword to. In this article I’ll talk about the 3 main sword models you might want to buy. You’ll even learn of a great web site to go to find all three of these magnificent sword replica types.

The sharpness of the blades is the defining feature of each type of medieval sword. You’ll find that reenactment swords need to be more blunt than any other sword. This is because these swords will be used in simulated combat and a sharp sword could cause accidental injury. Reenactment guilds tend to have rules and regulations that specifically lay out the level of bluntness that a weapon must have in order to be used in a reenactment.

Cutting and sparring swords require a sharp blade. They need to be fully functional swords. People may want to get this type of sword if they are looking to do martial arts displays or simply looking to pick up an actual medieval weapon.

Display weapons are made with blunt edges and are closer to reenactment swords than cutting swords. You won’t accidentally cut yourself while placing these types of swords into their displays. These swords are not created in any special way to make them more blunt than they need to be. This cuts down on their costs and makes them the most reasonably priced medieval sword replicas.

You’ve probably realized by now that your choice of swords will be determined by your particular situation. You can view these types of swords online at www.armorvenue.com . Viking swords, Greek swords, Normandy swords, Celtic swords, and many other swords can be found on this web site.

Once you’ve determined what type of sword you need to purchase, all you’ll have to do is find one you like. Take into consideration your personality as well as your situation. A high quality medieval sword replica can last for many years. Your children may some day take ownership of your sword well after you have been laid to rest.

Armors Created For Scaring Enemies

  • Posted on September 4, 2010 at 4:32 am

The technology available to today’s soldiers was not available to the ancient medieval soldiers. Superior strategy, larger numbers, brute strength, and psychological warfare were the only advantages an army might have over another. This lead to the creation of many different helmets, weapons, and armors. In this article I’ll talk about the more intimidating armors that were created in ancient times. I’ll even tell you where you can go to buy some highly intimidating medieval armor replicas.

The most ancient and highly intimidating armor was made from the bones of fallen people and animals. Warriors made helmets out of the skulls of fierce predators or large men. They would do this by lopping off the top of it and resting it atop their head. This type of armor was very intimidating but not very good at providing protection for the warrior. In comparison to Greek armor, bone armor did not seem like armor at all.

Even though old bones could not provide the same protection as leathers and metals, it did provide more of a “fear factor”. The high level of spirituality among ancient civilizations made anything involving the bones of the dead to be regarded as something to watch out for.

Muscle armors were created shortly after leather was formed and used for armor building purposes. The Greeks would wear breastplates that made them look incredibly muscular and fit. Enemy soldiers would think that they were fighting people with muscles carved straight from stone. Add in a plumed helmet and the Greek soldiers looked very tall and muscular indeed.

You can find great pictures of these armors through the Internet replica shops. The store www.historicalclothingrealm.com http://www.historicalclothingrealm.com has many great medieval armors for you to look through.

The bronze age featured similar muscle armors as well as some nasty looking helmets. Spikes and horns were placed atop helmets to make them look incredibly violent. Even though the horns and spikes were more decorative in nature, they did appear more intimidating to enemy combatants. These helmets made warriors seem to have an extra weapon to fight with.

Obviously modern day soldiers do not wear gear the same way ancient soldiers did. The modern day flack jackets and bullet proof vests do not appear very scary at all. The armored vehicles, however seem to make up for this fact. The next form of intimidation employed by future soldiers should be very interesting to behold. Will it be a space ship pointing guns directly at our neighbors or something entirely different? I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

Shopping For A Medieval Dress

  • Posted on August 28, 2010 at 7:27 pm

Medieval dresses are purchased for a wide array of reasons. Renaissance fairs, movies, costume parties and plays are all great places for medieval clothing to be worn. The problem is that these items can be hard to find. Unless it is getting close to trick or treat time, you will notice that finding this item is not simple. You can’t just walk into your local department store and ask for a medieval dress. Fortunately for you, I have found several places where you can go to buy this type of dress. In the following paragraphs I’ll tell you a few of my favorite places to find medieval clothing and explain to you what I like about each place.

Standard clothing can be bought both new and used and medieval clothing is no exception. You’ll find medieval gowns in both new and used costume shops. This includes stores that are found locally and online.

Buying a used medieval dress is great because you’ll save dramatically on price. A wide variety of discount and preowned items can be found on auction sites such as Ebay. The down side is that you don’t get to try them on and you won’t get a chance to give the item a good look before purchasing it. When buying used items you always want to have a chance to watch out for stains and other issues that may lower the value of the item.

In an attempt to avoid this, you may want to visit your local consignment shop or second hand store. Many times these shops will have preowned outfits you can try on and look over. Unfortunately you will find this method requires much time and patience as it can take awhile to find what you are searching for.

Another method is to go to a new costume store or online costume shop. You can find many great sites online without much effort. For instance www.historicalclothingrealm.com is a great site where you can buy many different historical costumes. The selection of these types of stores is very diverse and the money saving can be quite substantial.

Otherwise you can go to a local costume shop and try on some nice costumes at a higher price. You’ll find this technique useful when you need the costume on the day you are shopping for it and can’t wait for overnight delivery.

Thanks so much for reading this page on buying medieval clothing. Please add this page to your social book marks and link to it wherever possible.

How To Look Like A Roman Soldier

  • Posted on August 28, 2010 at 8:56 am

The medieval Roman soldier was one of the most feared and loved warriors of all time. The Roman empire loved this soldier. The empire was enlarged and kept safe through the fierce fighting efforts of the Roman soldiers. If you’ve ever fantasized about being a Roman soldier, why not dress and act like one for a day? As long as you recognize your fantasy is a fantasy, it won’t hurt to play at it. Your social life will not do well if you attempt to become a medieval Roman soldier indefinitely. I wrote this article to give men practical tips on how to become a Roman soldier for a day. I’ll tell you exactly what was worn so you can work on your own wardrobe. You’ll even learn of some great places to go to find Roman soldier items.

Firstly, Roman soldiers were very fit. Strict devotion to diet and exercise may be needed for those that do not have the best physiques. Always remember to talk with your doctor before starting any new diet or exercise program. Roman soldier armor does hide the stomach so you won’t have to have your abdominal muscles showing. When your in the shape you need to be, go ahead and buy your Roman soldier outfit. Becoming fit before you purchase your costume is critical because your size and shape may change once you’ve worked out for awhile.

Next you’ll need to look into getting the right costume and accessories. Items to include are body armors, helmets, shields, swords, boots, belts, and tunics. Remember you can buy an entire set of items at places such as Historical Clothing Realm to make things easy. Ensure that you have all the above items for historical accuracy. Even though the Roman soldier was trained well, he still needed the protection of his armor.

The armor should be metal and should cover the shoulders and the torso in its entirety. The shield should be round and the sword should be relatively short in comparison to other medieval swords. All Roman soldiers wore red tunics so make sure yours is red as well. Once you have all of your items you can put them all on and mess with your friends, take pictures, or do whatever you like. As long as you are careful and safe, you’ll always have fun in your Roman armor costume.

Purchasing Historical Wardrobes

  • Posted on August 22, 2010 at 4:39 am

Creating a historical wardrobe is extremely satisfying for reenacters, artists, collectors, and even costume party goers. There are many pieces to a historical wardrobe and all of them are quite important to your overall look. You’ll need to get every detail perfect or risk looking like somebody that does not know what they are doing. If you don’t study the history of the age you are trying to emulate you run the risk of wearing something that doesn’t fit into that age. This article will go over the nuts and bolts of historical wardrobe building. I’ll even tell you where you can go to find some great items without ever even leaving your house.

The first thing you should do is properly plan out your new wardrobe. Purchasing random items is never a good idea when building a costume set. You’ll find that medieval boots just don’t go with Roman armor.

Once you have your costume in mind it is important to keep buying items for it until the costume is complete. It may even be best that you save your money up and buy all the items for each particular costume at the same time. If you do things this way your outfit will always be fully assembled before you move onto a new outfit.

Head gear, foot wear, body gear, and other accessories should all be taken into consideration when planning out your outfit. Your medieval knight armor just wouldn’t be complete without the knight’s favorite weapons of choice. When you plan things out in advance you will always be more prepared than those that don’t. You’ll even know what to budget for before you even begin to make your purchases. Planning out everything in advance will also help you compare total prices of each wardrobe so you’ll know which costume actually costs more or less.

A great place to find all your costumes and accessories is http://www.historicalclothingrealm.com . Historical Clothing Realm will provide you with all the necessary items you need. You’ll find they have head wear, foot wear, and body wear all laid out for you.

Isn’t it nice to know you don’t have to make several different orders to get what you want? Buying everything in one order will ensure that you have everything in uniform order.

Thank you for reading this article on historical wardrobes. I hope you enjoyed reading this page as much as I enjoyed writing it.

Biker Helmets That Are Splendid

  • Posted on August 21, 2010 at 8:13 pm

The state of Pennsylvania passed a law a few years back stating that people riding motorcycles no longer need to wear a helmet while riding. The law has created a situation in which many bikers do not wear helmets at all. When the law was passed this was foreseen, however the amount of new and unique helmet wearing that this has created was probably not foreseen. Since safety guidelines for biker helmets no longer apply, people can wear whatever they want on their heads.

The magnificent number of uncommon biker helmets that can be seen on Pennsylvania roads is fantastic. I’ve even seen a large gang of people wearing Roman helmet while riding by. The helmet had large red plumes on top and the rest was a shiny bronze color. It really stood out and was one of the most unique biker helmets I’ve ever seen.

Although medieval helmets don’t provide the best protection for bikers, they are better than no helmet at all. The uniqueness of this helmet can be appreciated by everyone. If you’ve ever thought about getting yourself a medieval helmet to wear while riding your motorcycle, there are a few other types of helmets you can look into.

For instance, you could wear a gladiator helmet with a spiked top. The only note of caution is that you should get the most sturdy helmet you can find. Roman Centurion helmets, Greco Roman helmets, Gallic Centurion helmets, and Thracian helmets are all wildly unique medieval helmets you can choose from. The unique character of these helmets is very interesting.

Some of the above helmets have plumes and some do not. In addition to this you can choose a face guard thickness. The one thing they do all have in common is their open face which is great since you want to have full visibility while riding.

You can purchase all of these helmets at www.historicalclothingrealm.com . They sell all kinds of fantastic looking medieval gear as well as a few other items you might be interested in.

When your not riding you may want to leave your helmet displayed on a nice helmet stand or shelf. With a nice display, your helmet can double as a helmet and a piece of art. Why not buy your helmet and helmet stand at the same time? This way you’ll receive both at or around the same time and you’ll never have to worry about where you will store your helmet.

Costume Accessories

  • Posted on August 21, 2010 at 3:39 am

So many people buy or rent fantastic costumes for their Halloween costumes but ruin them with poor accessories. Folks that buy $200 costumes should not have $5 accessories matched up with them. Cheap accessories will quickly make expensive costumes look cheap as well. This article will go over how to properly accessorize your outfit so that you can look as good as you can this Halloween. We’ll even talk about some places you can go to purchase both costumes and accessories.

The first thing you must recognize is that all costumes should be accessorized. If your a lumber jack then you should have an axe. Butchers should have butcher knives and medieval soldiers should have medieval swords. Without the proper accessories your costume really is not complete. Can you imagine seeing a police man without a gun? You wouldn’t think this person was who he says he is would you? Why wear a costume if you aren’t going to make it look realistic?

Party goers should choose their costume and accessories based off of the venue they are attending. For instance if you were going to a party with children in attendance, you may not want to wear a costume that would need to have a weapon accompanying it. If you do decide to bring a costume weapon to a party with children, make sure to keep it with you at all times.

Life like costumes need life like acessories. For example, if your a police man, why not get a real set of hand cuffs. You should not use real weapons with your costumes, but you should not use plastic ones either. Why not use a replica weapon with your costume?

A great place to buy replica weapons is an online store known as Armor Venue . Armor Venue has so many items to choose from. You’ll find full sets of armor, pole arms, axes, civil war gear, pirate items, and even world war 2 fighting gear. Why not buy your soldier costumes from this website and make things easy on yourself?

Whether you buy from Armor Venue or some other web site, you will find that the variety of an online shop is much greater than a local costume store. Buying items from your computer room is much easier than visiting a local shop.

Thank you for reading this page on costumes. I hope you enjoyed it.

Collecting 300 Movie Props

  • Posted on August 13, 2010 at 10:49 pm

More and more Spartan gear is being found, bought, and collected all because of the fantastic “300” movie. Entire rooms as well as walls and corners of rooms are being devoted to the “300” movie collectibles. In this articled you’ll learn about the items you must have if you are to create a movie “300” display in your home. You’ll learn about the items you need to purchase, where you can purchase them, and how you can put them on display. If your new to collecting you’ll learn a lot, but even if you aren’t it is worth reading since you might run into something you missed.

Firstly, you need to know what items to buy for your collection. There are many items you can buy for your collection so we’ll start with the essentials. The Spartan sheild and helmet are the most notable items of the Spartan warriors. You will need to buy a large Spartan sheild and a Spartan helmet to start off your collection.

The shield should be large enough to completely protect the Spartan warrior and should be completely round. Each helmet should be devoid of plumes and should be rounded at the top rather than spiked or horned. Cheek protectors and open faces are what distinguishes this helmet from the more Gothic looking ones. Both items will be made of bronze or should at least be bronze in color.

Other items you will need are sandals and a javelin. You should also have a small sword. The full Spartan setup would not be complete without both the javelin and sword in your display.

You can buy these items using a few different methods. One of the best places to go for a large amount of variety and reasonable prices is the Internet. The Internet store www.armorvenue.com is a great place to go to find the “300” movie collectibles.

Displaying your items is the most exciting part of owning a collection like this. Separate stands as well as display cases, shelves, and table tops can all be used to mount up your movie props. One fantastic display method I saw was where helmets and armors were placed on stands while weapons and sandals were mounted. Hooks were used for the mounting of the weapons. There are many more good examples of great displays. Use your creativity and make something great.

Armor Collecting

  • Posted on August 7, 2010 at 5:43 am

Medieval armor collecting has become a hobby for many collectors. These sets of armor are more expensive than some hobbies, but less expensive than many others. Also it is a very unique hobby which adds to the allure of it. Medieval armor collectors are always proud of their collections of both original and replica armors. In this article I’ll discuss how to get started in medieval armor collecting by collecting breast plates. I’ll even tell you how you can display them in your own home.

Are you wondering why anybody would want to collect only medieval breastplates when there are so many other armors available? There are a multitude of reasons why one would want to start their armor collection with breast plates and not full sets. They do not take up much space in the house, they are less expensive to purchase, and they are easier to correctly identify. These three reasons are more than enough to tell you why you should start off collecting breast plates.

The breast plate armor does not need to be displayed on a full sized model like some of the full sized armors. A great display can easily be made using a table top, display case, or shelf. Decorating your home with a breastplate is simple since you can place them in even the smallest of rooms. Many other armors are heavy and take up copious amount of space. This makes them almost impossible to display in a room with limited amounts of space.

Another great thing about this armor is that it does not cost as much as a full set of armor. Since breast plates are easier to make, they are also less expensive to make. Each Greek nation had a different variation of Greek armor to be outfitted with. Because medieval Greece was not unified their armors weren’t unified. Sparta, Corinth, Athens, and many other nations made up Greece. Although their was no uniform set of armor in Greece, their were many similarities between the armors of each nation.

These nations rarely had large battles consisting of archers and cavalry. These forces usually consisted of civilian soldiers performing the job of an infantry man. These forces liked to travel light and were not equipped with large pieces of battle armor. In this article I’ll go over the main characteristics of ancient Greek armor. You’ll even learn of a web site where you can go to purchase well built Greek armor replicas for your house.

Firstly, you should note that most of the Greek armors were made out of bronze. This is important to note because bronze can last for centuries and historians and archeologists have a much easier time of finding fully intact Greek armor compared to some of the other medieval armors.

The medieval Greek armors basically consisted of a breast plate and a helmet. These pieces were made from bronze and were very durable. They did not provide any protection to the warriors arms, legs, and feet. They did however, give the soldier full range of movement in both their arms and legs.

Breast plates were often forged in a way that mimicked a well formed chest and abdomen. Sharp abdominals and large pectoral muscles were beat into the breast plate. The use of muscles in the breast plate was a way to deceive the enemy into thinking that all of the soldier were in peak condition.

Variations in these armors were very slight when it came to the breast plate. Some armies had intricate designs and colors on their breast plates, but for the most part they were just plain muscular torsos. You can see some examples of these armors at http://www.historicalclothingrealm.com . The helmets did vary greatly between each nation. There were helmets with plumes and helmets without plumes. Even the plumed models differed in the sizes and colors on top of the helmet. Cheek protector length varied among helmets. There were helmets with wide and long cheek protectors and some with very short and thin ones.

Similarities in the Greek helmets did exist between all models. For example, there were no horned or spiked helmets, only round ones. Open faces existed in all helmet models.
